Our Tennessee trip also included a terrific visit with Joanne Zimmer McCamman.  See what the reunion started?  Hopefully our other classmates are having opportunities to reconnect.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Dear Classmates,

Someone in an earlier message wrote that he or she had been in contact with Joe Duff (I think the message said he was in Los Angeles).  Does anyone have current contact information for Joe?  I would like to reach out to him.

Am giving many thanks.  May you all be well and happy this holiday season!!  {~;

I would strongly encourage everyone to take a step beyond seeing their primary care physician and make an appointment with a cardiologist.  Fortunately, I did just that last week and through a series of tests dicovered I had two blocked arteries that were cleared by placement of stents. The diagnostic tools of your primary care physician such as electrocardiagrams and blood tests can often not uncover hidden problems with your heart.  The changes are subtle and occur over a long period of time.  We compensate for these changes and dismiss the signs to old age or simply being out of shape when in fact there may be a more serious underlying cause.  Bottom line I feel very fortunate to have dodged a bullet.

Please take the extra step and insist on a stress test, CT scan, etc. to make sure you are ok. I want to make sure that everyone I saw at our 50th reunion I see again at our 55th.

Jim

My cousin Kent's name is one of the 50,000+ on the Wall. In this VVMF Web site photo he looks just like a young version of my grandfather. I'm thinking of him and of Carl Thorne-Thomsen today.

As you peruse the names and faces of these and other friends and relatives on this site, rather than saying, "Happy Memorial Day," try this: "Please have a reflective Memorial Day weekend, giving thanks for all those killed in action since 1776."

Thank you, Fred.  It is so sobering to reflect on all of those who have lost their lives for our freedom.  Yes, may this weekend be a time of reflection and appreciation!

Today, Kathy Karsten (Rushing), Carroll Wetzel (Wilkinson), Margaret Klein (Breen) and I had a delightful get-together and lunch at the half- way spot between Washington DC and Morgantown, WV.  Thanks to Mapquest we found that Hancock, MD was about 1 1/2 -2 hours from each of us.  It was wonderful to be together again.  We wish all of our classmates a happy 51st anniversary of our HS graduation.

Kathryn Karsten (Rushing)

We certainly had an enjoyable get-together and look forward to many more. One of the topics of conversations was the class video. Recuperation from a knee replacement and two new grandchildren sidelined me for a good part of this year, but I've got my mojo back and the project is in the pipeline again. Stay tuned for news on its progress.

In addition to seeing Margaret, Carroll, and Beth,  the reunion last year put me back in touch with Pat (Iacurto). McClure, whom I visit with almost every time I'm in San Diego, which is often. It has been such fun to reconnect with these people at this stage of life.

My best regards to all of you.

I am so grateful for all the continuing messages on the forum.  I am sorry my husband and I were not able to attend the 50th, but will look forward to the 55th.  Happy Summer Solstice to all; the fire of your heart lights rock on!

My wife, Sandra, and I will arrive in Lake Bluff at about 5:00 P.M. on July 15 (three weeks from today). We will stay one night. We would like to enjoy a leisurally breakfast at about 9:00 A.M. on July 16. We have not visited the Village for many years, so we have four questions: 1. What Lake Bluff hotel do you recommend? 2. Where should we eat dinner the evening we arrive? 3. Where in downtown Lake Bluff may we eat breakfast? 4. Who of you would like to join us for dinner or breakfast? I have a rich wife, so it can be our treat!  :)

Too bad I will not be in the area then to take advantage of this offer.  Here is a link to Hotels.com for the area.  Not sure it has changed enough to satisfy all you needs within the city limits. :-))

Fred, I hope that you have a wonderful visit back in Lake Bluff.  If you want to retrace some of the steps that your classmates took one year ago... you could stay at either the Hilton Garden Inn or the Residence Inn Lake Forest/Mettawa.  Our contact number for either of those hotels was 847-457-2482.

We had a wonderful lunch at Buffington's Cafe on Scranton Ave. in Lake Bluff.  I would assume that they are also open for breakfast.

Tim and Beth, thanks for the tips and pointers. Also heard from Tom Boese via email. Might actually see him when this same road trip takes us through the Twin Cities. Tim, you and I still need to set a time to get together at Jason's Deli in McKinney. Hope others see the previous posting and can meet my wife and me for breakfast on Scranton Ave. at Bluffington's on July 16.

On a road trip wth Sandra. Tuesday we enjoyed a delightful visit over coffee with Tom Boese in Minneapolis. Thursday morning we are meeting Mike Tedor at 9:15 for breakfast at Bluffington's on Scranton Avenue in Lake Bluff. Feel free to join us if you are nearby.

On Thursday I had coffee with Fred and his lovely wife Sandra. We spent quite a bit of time catching up on old times and old friends. Regrettably he has more hair than I do, but then just about everyone does. It was really good seeing him and meeting Sandra. It had probably been about 40 years or so. Afterwards, I decided to take a drive and go by my old house at 405 E. Sheridan Road (Sheridan and Moffat). The house where I grew up was the ranch on the south side of the east bend of Sheridan Road, just before it crosses from Lake Bluff into Lake Forest. Oh, no! They had just torn it down and were in the process of putting up a giant monstrosity. It looked to me like a cross between the Castle Dracula and Alcatraz! How could they possibly tear my house down down after only 65 years! I really felt like jumping out of the car and yelling "stop!", except it was already gone. I think I read in one of Beth's posts that they had tore down her house in Lake Bluff too, but at least she didn't see it. Ouch that hurt. I have already decided that I am going to haunt it once I am gone. That will serve them right! They will be awakened to the sound of poker games and basketballs bouncing all night long. So there!

Oh, no!!!! I can't believe that Lake Bluff would ever become another McMansion venue!!!!! The very same thing happened to my parents when they moved to Atlanta after I graduated. For a "creepingly" increase of years, especially in the last 10 years or so, the section of NW Atlanta to which my parents moved from Lake Forest has now become a MEGA-McMansion area.   In fact, an Altanta basketball star, whose team I am clueless, has moved in and created havoc for parking et al.! When Chip Webster drove me by our LF home on Lake Forest Drive at our reunion, I was a bit disconcerted by the current owners superficial changes. I can only imagine how you Lake Bluffers must feel! Mike, My home at 544 Ravine Ave, in Lake Bluff is still standing.  However the house on either side of ours have been torn down and turned into mega-mansions.  It won't be long before my favorite house will be gone, as  well.  Oh so sad. Beth

Well, I guess even the White House was burned by the British. Of course I don't think James and Dolly's dog was buried in the back yard too.

Our home on Moffett is among the demolished and replaced. I think Dee's house may be gone too. I guess it's true what "they" say, sometimes you cannot go home again.

Sad to hear about Mike's pets' resting place and the other homes. At least your places are still residences. Our home at 126 Scranton Avenue was demolished shortly after our high school years. The property became the new bank's parking lot.

Betsy Wentworth has been up in Wisconsin, visiting with Scott and me for the week.  Today was extra special because we went to visit Tom Boese and Katie at their beautiful cabin (home) near Spooner, WI.  The first picture was taken prior to our 2 1/2 hour kayak trip down the Yellow River.  The second picture was Tom and Betsy doing leg wrestling like they did as children!!!

I just returned from a road trip where the highlight was listening to the CDs Carol Wetzel made for our reunion.  Whoa, music certainly brings back the memories.  Guess we'll be listening to Elvis, the Supremes and dancing the wheelchair 'twist' in the nursing home sometime in the future...a very long time in the future...hopefully.  Carol's comment on some of the music was "what were we thinking?"  and I know what she means.  The Singing Nun?  "Soldier Boy"?  "The Loco-Motion"?!  She will be happy to send you a copy.  You'll need to send her a self-addressed envelope.  Send her a message for details.  The music will make you smile.
