Mary and I grew up in the same neighborhood, went through school, then moved off into life in separate directions. I didn't see her again until I was in police work and found out that she was married to an FBI agent friend of mine, Gordon Brooks. Gordon's a great guy so I was happy for both of them as they settled down in the Lake Forest/Highland Park area.
Mary was killed by a drunk driver while she was driving her car through the intersection of Hwy. 83 and Peterson Rd. Her car was t-boned on the passenger side and she died at the scene. She and Gordy had only been married a couple of years. What a waste of a gentle soul.
