Yikes...such a long story. Attended a couple of Illinois colleges (Knox & U of I). Moved to California in '67, chasing the hippie dream. Lived in Berkeley until '71 (many stories to share...worked as a logger and a merchant seaman, among other gigs). Moved to Big Island, Hawai'i for a while, then on to Olympia, Washington, where I finished my undergrad studies at The Evergreen State College while working the docks as a longshoreman. Put in a year working at Colegio Cesar Chavez as financial aid director. Opened a restaurant/nightclub in Oly called Gnu Deli...until I realized I really don't have a head for business. Did meet my wife, Peggy, tho, and later got a job at Evergreen (student activities director) until we moved to the Bay Area for our graduate studies in '85. Earned a MSOB degree (really! Organizational Behavior MS) while working in student services at a psychology grad program. California earthquake happened in '89, which nudged us back up to the Pacific NW (Portland, Oregon) where we have lived since '95, raising our son, Nico, and working...Peg at Hewlett Packard (marketing) and me as dean of students at Pacific Northwest College of Art. I retired last June and am enjoying the heck out of retirement. I look forward to sharing stories and memories with all you LFHS classmates this summer! Cheers & beers!

Roger has lived a life filled with grace and adventure. Courage and compassion.

We've been close since freshman wrestling days. I will miss him dearly.

In many cultures, "to live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die."

Roger lives in our hearts and in our memories.

Bob's death is a time for mourning and for celebration of an Incredibly Nice Guy. When I sent him birthday greets this past year, referencing our scouting days together, he responded "Hey Mike! - yes - the Iggle Scouts of Troop 46 - that legacy has lasted longer than any of my "professional" work."

He was referring to his achievement as Eagle Scout...a high honor in Boy Scout days. We shared many hours together as Boy Scouts...then later as Explorer Scouts in high school. One golden memory is from August of 1961. We were part of a mixed group of scouts from various North Shore troops that traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for an outdoor adventure. On our first night there, a number of us from various communities talked late into the night about God and religion...comparing views from the various Christian and Jewish denominations represented in the circle. That was probably the first theosophical debate for many of us.

It was such a pleasure to visit with Bob at the reunion. Condolences to Linda and to everyone who was touched by Bob Haslach's positive energies. May the warmth of your memories help soften the sharp edges of your grief.
