Because Sandra and I have our wedding anniversary this Friday (28 years) it got me to thinking. Do any of y'all who married young have your 50th anniversaries this year or next? Just curious.

Good for you and Scott, Beth! That means your 50th will coincide with your college 50th, almost to the day!  Very fun!

Carole: My "contrary" PC wouldn't process my request to your email: altho' I'm set to fly out to O'Hare on Friday morning and have a room reserved for the weekend, my elder daughter is concerned about my renting a car.......she's worried about my driving to LF on my own. How long a trip is it and how complicated?  I'm mainly  worried about how do I get back from the Sunday function to the Marriott to catch a shuttle back out to O'Hare.....I'm not scheduled to flly out until much later, but? Duffy

Kathryn Karsten (Rushing)

Duffy--it's a piece of cake to get from O'Hare to LF, and the hotels are just off the toll road. You just take the toll road, which is right next to the airport, north to the LF exit and there you are. If you are concerned about not getting lost, maybe you should bring or rent a GPS--I'm sure the car rental company can help. I will be at the breakfast on Sunday and am happy to take you back to the Marriott to catch the shuttle--I'll be going in that direction anyway. It will be good to see you. Kathy

My wife Gretchen, of 45 years as of August 16, and I are driving in a rental from O'Hare to the hotels/Friday night events and could give you a ride.  Our flights arrive from different cities around 3:30pm in Terminal 3 on American.  You are welcome to join us for the ride to the hotel.  We are not returning to Dallas on Sunday though but staying in the LF hotel to attend my mother in law's memorial service.  She passed away on the 20th at the age of 95.

American taxi has flat rate trips to and from O'Hare for Lake Forest  ($40+tip), Lake Bluff ($42+tip) and Highland Park  ($35+tip) addresses.  These can be set up on the phone or web at 847-673-1000 or

http://www.americantaxi.com/ATOnlineOrderWeb/main.htm

Good Luck and let us know if if anyone else wants a ride on Friday afternoon.

I am staying in Chicago the 6th and 7th and then renting a car at O'Hare the morning of the 8th.  Let me know if you need a ride in the morning and I can take you to LF.  Planning to use the GPS on my phone but if you ride with us you can be the navigator and alert me if you see a sign that says "Milwaukee 10 miles". Then we know we have a gone too far north!!

OK, so while we're on Transportation;  I am hoping to cadge a ride to the Friday night dinner, since I'm coming in by train, not car.  I'll be at the Deer Path Inn, in case anybody else is staying there, with a car. I'll need rides to some other events, too, but I know that will be easy to arrange once we are all there.

Cynthia, I am so pleased that Kathy Karsten (Rushing) has volunteered to provide transportation for you on Friday evening.  (Thanks, Kathy.)  By the way, I see that your artwork has been added to the list of "non-performing talent" at Saturday's talent show.  The links to your site (as well as Bob Haslach's site and Suzanne Stohl's site) are shown on our class website home page.

Ron Boggs,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your novel, Backfire. Being interested in genealogy, I can't help but wonder if your research drew you closer to your roots (with your great grandfather - a lumberjack, and grandfather - a locomotive engineer).  It helped me understand the economics of the 1870's... and connected me with the logging camp, upon which our northern Wisconsin cabin sits.  Thank you.

All Lake Bluff Alumni - (or anyone else!) Joanne Zimmer, Betsy Wentworth and I will be meeting at the coffee shop in Lake Bluff and take a walk down memory lane on Thurs. at about 1:30 (times are not exact but that's when they think they will arrive from the airport) Their first stop is to walk around Lake Bluff to stimulate all the amazing memories. Anyone else is welcome to join us!

Carole, Betsy and Joanne.  I would love to join you... however Scott and I will not be arriving at Ft. Sheridan (where we... and Betsy are staying) until about 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.  Have a great walk down Memory Lane.

My wife Flora just came by and said she is going to have a baby. I am so happy.....wait a minute my hearing is not what it used to be, what she actually said was "I am going to have a bubbly" and toast the committee for such a fantastic reunion. It was a great time from start to finish and again thanks to all that helped organize.

I am already missing everyone.

I've decided that reunions are a little like weddings. There is a lot of planning (thanks Laura, Beth, Tom and all the others) and, when the event happens, it all just goes by too quickly!  But we do have many fine memories, pictures, the oral history (thanks, Kathy) and a great website so we can stay connected.  Priceless.

well done.

Laurie Higgins (Dunkerton)

Thank you so much Tom, Laura, Beth, and all the others on the planning committee for doing such a great job planning our 50th reunion.  I had a great time reconnecting and reminiscing with old friends.  The pictures in the gallery are great reminders of who we were and the people we've become.

And Fred Freeman, Tom Dunkerton and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary next May, just to satisfy your curiosity.

I can't even begin to express how much I loved being with our classmates last weekend (and how much I missed those of you who were unable to attend).  We truly had a blast!  Too bad that the time flew by so quickly.  Thank you, thank you for being YOU!

I have tried my best to place the correct names under the reunion photos.  Please send me any changes that need to be made.  Also, if you took any reunion photos, add them to the gallery for all to enjoy!

How wonderful to see you all. To the committee leaders (Laura, Beth & Tom), thanks for all your hard work. Ron and Judy thanks for hosting Friday night. And thanks to Dave for organizing the golf (I think that’s what you call what we did on Friday) and making the arrangements for the beach on Sunday. To everyone who made an effort to get there, it was an affirmation of what a unique wonderful group of human beings you are. Everyone's attendence made it special.

Best Always, Chip

Gretchen and I had a great time at the reunion.  Thanks for all the planning by all the folks.  The venues worked out great.  We especially liked the Lake Forest Club as this summer represented the 50th reunion of our meeting on the pool deck of the club and August 16 the 45th anniversary of our wedding reception in the very room we had the HS 50th.  Great to see all of those who came back.  For those who missed, lets try to do it again in 5 years.  Life is too unpredictable to keep saying "next time".

I want to add my thanks to Beth, Tom and Laura for organizing the event with special kudos to Beth for getting this website up and running and for posting so many photos. When it became clear that I would be unable to join the reunion due to our daughter's visit from Germany, the web site became an extra special gift.

I so enjoyed reading the individual updates and especially the forum messages. While saddened by the deaths of so many of us, I was heartened by the kind, smart, funny, wise, thoughtful and caring comments from so many of you. Whether we started the journey to adulthood in kindergarten or our senior year, we all shared some very interesting times. Those shared journeys do have a way of binding people together in unique and unexpected ways, even when we have not been together for very many years.

I too hope that we will convene again before too long, those of us fortunate enough to still be alive and in good health know that the finish line for this lifetime approaches. I sure hope to be around for the next reunion and to be able to join such a great group of people.

Dixie and I had a blast.  A special thanks to Beth, Laura and Tom; and thanks to all who came.  After all, wasn't it Woody Allen who said "Ninety percent of success is just showing up?"  It was a success and it was truly enjoyable seeing you all again.   Hope to see more of you in 2019.  And thanks for letting Rattlebones perform.  I hope you all liked at least one of the songs.
