George, your generosity is amazing!  Thank you for giving your CD's "Rattlebones" and "Feel No Pain" to the attending classmates.  What a souveneir from the wonderful reunion.  For those who missed out, Google George's CDs.  "American music, an eclectic mix of rock, blues, R&B, country.  A blend of the Mississippi Delta, Jamaica and, of course, Nashville."

I have been re-reading messages posted on this forum.  Kathy Karsten's #25 message just sparked me to order Middlemarch, by George Elliott.  By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed Ron Boggs' Backfire.  Any other books of recommendation???

I too would like to add my 2 cents worth of thanks to all those who planned our reunion and all those who came. Gerry and I enjoyed ourselves tremendously especially the golf event - a special thanks to Tom for that. Looking forward to 2019; if any of you get our way in Florida you have our digits, give us a call.

Thanks so much to all of those who collaborated on what sounded like a superb gathering!  I so wish I could have attended, but long standing plans prevented my actually being there, which has made this website all the more special for me.  I feel as if I've "seen" you all and have been able to take part, if only in a small way.  I loved all the photos Beth posted and looked at every one of the 169.  Thanks once again for helping those of us who couldn't be present enjoy the festivities!

Hello Classmates!

I’ve spent the days since returning home trying to savor every detail of the reunion weekend’s gatherings in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff. It was such a pleasure to see everyone and spend a little time together. Our fearless leaders Laura and Tom and their committee members gave us all such a memorable gift: a 50th high school reunion with each other. I am so happy that I was there with you.

As promised at the Saturday night reunion dinner, here are the instructions to follow if you want a copy of the 2-CD set of tunes that hit #1 on the charts between fall of 1960 and spring of 1964 when we graduated from LFHS.

First choose media mail or first class postage. Media mail is $2.69 and first class is $3.04 Find out at your post office if there are additional charges that should be added to the mailing envelope that will accommodate two CD’s in a case. Then simply send a self addressed envelope with postage attached to:

Carroll Wetzel Wilkinson

131 Hoffman Avenue

Morgantown West Virginia 26505

We’ll burn CD’s for you and mail them back when they are ready.

Promise me you’ll have a drink and sit and listen to them when you have time to be nostalgic. Get together with classmates and others in our age group to listen. You never know, more memories of high school may come back to you because of the music. Enjoy the broad range of awful to fabulous. (For some of them I thought: What were America’s teenagers thinking? What were we thinking?) But it’s part of our history.

Have fun, take care, and see you in five years, if not sooner!

Carroll

First of all I haven't responded to the reunion survey yet as I could not find the box to check "Let's do this every year".

Secondly, at the end of the reunion Kathy Karsten asked me what surprised me most. Took me awhile, but I think the answer has to be the unknown creative talent that has emerged out of the class. The art of Cynthia Willey, Susan Stohl, and Bob Haslach, the music of George Williamson and Tom Jewell, the writing of Ron Boggs and now I have to add to the list the photography of Tom O'Beirne. I took pictures of Market Square, the train station and the High School and they looked nothing like the composition of Tom's on the same subjects. Well done Tom!

Yeah, I was looking for that every-year box, too!  Nice irony, since I resisted going for so long......:-)

I want to add my thanks to our co-chairs Laura and Tom and the entire planning committee for putting together a wonderful weekend.  The evening at the Lake Forest Club was terrific and the time went so fast!  It's truly amazinig that after 50 years we still have a bonding and comradery that's hard to explain, unless you were  there.  It was great then and still is now!

Many Thanks to both Tim Feemster and Tom Jewel for the birthday wishes yesterday. While I made it to the 25th reunion, I was not able to make this one but, I am definitely interested in attending a 55th, should there be one on the drawing board. While in high school, I lived on Ravine Park Drive, which is about two blocks north of LFHS. My close neighbors were Kim Prescott, Cynthia Willey and Drew McDowell, all of whom were only a few houses away. Nancy Olsen, Randy Holt and Cathy Secombe all lived with close walking distance, as well. I currently live in Poway, CA, a burb of San Diego. I enjoyed seeing the photos that Beth and Tom O'Beirne took, I hope to see all of you at the 55th.

BTW....I absolutely love the nice “hair do” in my graduation photo. I'd like to update my photo with a more current one but, for some reason, all of the current ones make me look like I am 68! What's up with that???

Did anyone realize that the comedian/actor Robin Williams who died last week attended Gorton elementary school and Deerpath grade school in Lake Forest until he was 13?

08/27/14 10:42 AM #168

Stephen Schock

Actually, one of my younger brothers, John, attended Gorton School and Deerpath with Robin.  Many years ago, he mentioned  to me that he remembered him as being very funny and always doing "munchkin" voices and other characters, as well.  I believe that he was in trouble at times for being the class clown.

Does anyone know if Robin Williams and his family attended the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit on Westminster?

08/29/14 06:26 PM #170

Elizabeth Love

Yes, I believe so.  I grew up attending Holy Spirit.  If any of my fellow Epsicopalians are interested, refer to:

"Top Ten Reasons to be an Episcopalian" by Robin Williams.  It is a riot!  Sorry I couldn't make the reunion.

We lived across from Gorton. My brother Ron and cousin Rich Cordery used to play with Robin and a couple other neighbor kids. Rather shy kid. One of my buddies asked Robin if he had any worms on him. This could be when he decided to get into comedy.

Thoroughly enjoyed the reunion.

Thanks to the team that made it possible.

Greetings to all!  I am so pleased to see that communications via the "Message Forum" are continuing. My smiles continue when I think of the wonderful time we had at the reunion and the reconnections that were made.  Just last weekend Scott and I were with Carroll Wetzel (Wilkinson) and her husband Chris, to celebrate Chris' 68th birthday... and his successful recovery from open-heart surgery in March.  We look forward to heading to Tennessee in November to join Betsy Wentworth; and are thrilled to take her up on her generous offer to use her two tickets to the Steeler-Titans game.  (She thinks that football in November is too cold.)

This is the first chance to say thank you for a well planned 50th LFHS reunion since Lynne got home on the 11th of August.  She had major back surgery on August 26, at MUSC in Charleston, SC they transported her on 8-30 to Health South Rehab in Columbia, and they released her on 9-13.

We both enjoyed getting to see alot of you. We are now looking forward to the next one in 5 years. I went to the 25th, which was fun. I will try again to convince the others who live down here in SC to go next time, just as long as iit is in the summer.  None of us here miss the winters up there.

Again, thank you for a job well done,

Sincerely

Jim Johnston

When I attended the reunion I got to see a lot of old friends and was able to talk a little bit with a lot of you. I discovered that Scott Fanciullo lives in Lake Zurich and Skip Justice lives in Schaumburg. Since I live in Arlington Heights, we are all right in a line about 10 minutes apart with me in the middle. Because we are really geographically close, why not get togther and talk a lot about old times? So last Saturday, Scott and Skip and the wives came over, along with Tom Jewell and my brother Dick (class of '67), had some pizza and a great time talking about the good old days at LFHS. If you noticed your nose itching Saturday night, one of us was probably remembering a story about you from back in the day. If you check out the "Photos" section and look at the "Post Reunion Photos" you will see the "selfie" of all five of us. I guess this was a mini-reunion, huh? We really had a blast. Try it.

Carol Wetzel Wilkinson and her husband Chris visited Scott and me at Deep Creek Lake, MD today.  We had a wonderful time reminiscing about the 50th reunion and our wonderful classmates.  We are so blessed!

Scott and I are having a terrific time in Nashville with Betsy Wentworth!!!  Last night we froze to death at the Steeler-Titan game.  Go Steelers!!!

Don't you love us back together again!  The Johnson's are at my house.  They went to the game last night, and I watched on TV with a roaring fire and glass of wine.  The game time teperature was 25 degrees, 17 degrees with the wind chill factor.  Now you know why I Don't Go to Football Games in November!!!!
